Audience Research

The target audience for my college magazine will be the students, who are aged 11-18, as they will be the people the magazine is published for. The content of my magazine will contain stories that will interest both boys are girls, so either gender does not feel the magazine is biased in any way. I will include stories that happen both in and around the college as they are likely to appeal to the students of the college. The secondary target audience for the college magazine would be the parents/guardians, they are likely to be interested in the events that have or will happen in and around the college. The change in direction of the college is likely to appeal to the secondary audience as it concerns their child/children's education, so I will also include this.

The results i collected from my survey monkey I discovered further information regarding my target audience which helps me narrow down what stories I should include in my magazine. The information I found via my survey was that my target audience is majority male, this may no necessarily mean that they read the magazine more, but they took the time to complete my survey. This information enables me to cater more specifically for my target audience.

The information i acquired from this question is that the main target audience age range is
14-16, this isn't a great representation of who reads the magazine, it more shows who has taken the time to do the survey. Having an idea of who the main age range is enables me to cater more specifically for that age range, as it shows who reads it.

After asking this question it has become apparent that the majority of people read the magazine, and took the survey have an average household income of £29,999 - £49,999, with a few having slightly higher average incomes. This will enable me to direct the magazine at that specific target audience.

I have discovered that the target audience of my magazine are going to be White(british), finding this out benefits me because I can put relevant images on the front covers and pages without any ethinic group taking offence and I can target a specific audience.

By asking this question I have found out that people are not the biggest fan of reading the college magazine. Finding this out will make it easier to direct the magazine at people who won't necessarily read the magazine, so perhaps adding more pictures would be something to think about.
