Weekly Round Up

Cornwall Peninsula league round up

So far the Peninsula league, as always, hasn’t failed to throw up its fair share of thrilling games, brilliant goals and all round superb football.

Leading the way early on is Ivybridge Town who have won 10 of their first 14 games. Closely behind the front-runners are 4 time peninsula champions, Bodmin Town. Bodmin have only lost one game out of their opening fixtures and are arguably more deserving of the first place spot at this stage of the season. The signing of Adam Carter from last season’s champions, Plymouth Parkways who find themselves in a lowly 7th place, has dramatically helped them improved on last season’s goal scoring problems.  Propping up the division and in extremely low spirits after losing 10-0 to a tenacious Parkway side, are Bovey Tracey. Making up the rest of the bottom three are Newquay, who recently lost to a young, bettering Camelford side on Tuesday night and Elburton Villa who only have 7 points from 14 games.

Diet Plan Article

Want to be a pro? Then you need to not only possess the ability, but you must be able to eat like a pro. It’s not all about ability, it’s about how and what you eat in order to enhance your performances.  Follow these basic steps to preparing for and recovering from matches through eating. It is recommended that to perform at optimum level, football players should intake between 2400 and 3000 calories to be able to perform at the highest level. Carbohydrates should account for 70% of a footballer’s diet. The best food to eat is complex carbohydrate, which is found in foods like bread and pasta. You must also consume saturated fats, unsaturated fats, vitamins and protein.

Football Review

Adidas Predator Instinct FG - Black/Running White/Neon Orange Review
These new boots have been constructed by Adidas to maximize comfort while performing to a high standard. A new feature of the latest rendition of the prestigious predator boot is the SL rubber elements that are welded on to the upper part of the boot which optimises grip on the ball. The main material is a leather-like HybridTouch synthetic which makes the boot lightweight at the same time as it moulds the shape of your foot to once more maximize comfort for the performer. As well as all of this, the transparent lightweight TPU outsole has the revolutionary control frame for ultimate contact on the ball through the top of the foot. The most outstanding bit of the latest Adidas success is the newly engineered welded gel pass pad, located on the medial side, which increases the surface area for accurate distribution of the ball. This is why I have given this boot the 4/5 boot rating.

Match Report

Camelford v Newquay

There was a ferocious start to this bottom of the table clash with Newquay coming to Trefrew Park and dominating the first 10 minutes, hitting the frame of the goal 3 times in this space of time. However, through the support of the goal frame and terrific stop from Camels keeper, Adam Fuller, the score remained 0-0. Taking spirit from this stunned camelford soon regain composure and found themselves 1-0 up through a silky passing move and exquisite finish from young forward James McNary. Camelford took a 2-0 lead into the break following Kyle Flew’s goal after a goalmouth scramble, which saw Newquay fail to clear. After the interval, Camelford dominated, hitting the bar through McNary before the Camelford marksman doubled his money with another very cool finish from a pinpoint cross from Boxall.  Newquay secured a consolation goal when Danny Frohlick put a header into his own goal from an opposition corner.

Feature Article Draft

Did you think you’d ever play football again?

“To be honest with you, no I didn’t and that really put me in a bad place. Thinking that id never do something I have a real passion again was the worst feeling in the world. I began to try and think of things to replace it, but there was just nothing. I’m still so young, but this happening has really matured me and maybe view things very differently. I was never an optimistic person, but now I’m the most optimistic person ever, you really can achieve anything you want.”

Who helped you the most throughout this ordeal?
“It’s a real cliché to say that family is everything and I’m going to agree with that. Papa Nige, as we call him, was the most helpful. Obviously all of the family supported me, but dad was by far the most supportive, he took time off of work just to spend time with me at the hospital, sat with me all day, stayed with me over night. However, the best thing he did was kept reassuring me that one day I’d make it at a big club and as he always says, “I’m never wrong Danny, trust me.” I also had big help from Darren Fletcher, who also suffers from a similar bowel disease. He came and visited me and told me how he overcame it to play again. After all of this support, I was beginning to believe that I would play again.”

Could you have joined spurs?

“Never, no. I’m a massive arsenal fan and so is all of my family. So, I couldn’t have done it. As much as I couldn’t have turned down a pro contract from a premier league club, I’d never join spurs. I was grateful when the offers came in from premier league clubs, but the one I was waiting for came shortly after. I was delighted when Arsenal made the offer. Arsene Wenger travelled to see me and talk over the deal and for me that was special. I will now put everything I have into breaking into the 1st team and contributing to the successful of this wonderful club.

“Definitely, I keep pinching myself to see if I’m dreaming, but I’m not. I still can’t believe that this has happened to me, Danny from Cornwall. I’m settling in great, with the other lads that are around my age. I guess I’m still getting used to it, but as the training takes off and we get into the season, things will settle down. Living in London compared to Cornwall is crazy; there is so much going on here! It’s fair to say I really am living the dream.”
