This is a front cover I created for magazine. I found a good example of a magazine front cover, I used this front cover to get an idea of the main conventions of a magazine and base my design upon what i had found. I used a website called 'urbanfont' to find suitable title for my magazine. I chose the name 'Strive' because I felt it was relevant to the target audience of 11-18 year olds at the college.

Analysing College Magazines
To enable me to establish what common conventions I will require to incorporate into my work to ensure that is represents the need of the target audience I have selected, I will be closely analysing two well carefully chosen magazine covers, and two magazine contents pages. Media theory and research indicates that when a new product is created the existing genre conventions need to be followed to allow specific target audiences to recognise what there products it. The two main theorists that support this statement are the following:
'Creativity results from the interaction of a system composed in three elements: a culture that contains symbolic rules, a person who brings novelty into the symbolic domain. and a field of experts who recognise and validate the innovation' ( Caikazentmihalyi, 1996)
'The making of the new and rearranging of the old' (Bentley, 1997)
Preliminary Task
Preliminary Task
Prior to undertaking the main task, I will need to complete the prelim task first. This task involves creating a cover and content page for a new college magazine. This task provides perfect opportunity to enhance the skills I began to work on during my time at GCSE, including; Media in photoshop, audience research, critical reflection, media language and pre-production. The propostion of this task excites me, as it will enable me to gain a broader understanding of professional magazine conventions and be able to create a more cultivated product than those that I created at GCSE and prepare me for the main task.

My AS Coursework
My AS Coursework
After reading the print brief, I decided to select the Print Brief, as I felt it was the most appropriate brief for me. I produced a magazine at GCSE level, although it was not produced to a particularly high standard, and did not contain many of the correct conventions required for a magazine it has provided a good, solid foundation for me to learn about and improve my skills on the production of magazines and how they are designed to attract a specific target audience. Personally, i am very excited to get started on this project as I have great interest in the music industry and photography.
