Website Construction

As I had to create a website for my coursework and I had no prior skills for making websites or using Dreamweaver, I attended a day workshop on how to create a website using Dreamweaver.

The first thing I did was to make my masthead. I used illustrator to make my masthead. I chose a font from the selection and used the text to tool write ‘Gwari’. I then added a Cornwall dots logo in place of the dot above the ‘I’. I then used the extrude and bevel tool to make my mast head 3D so that it would stand out against the background image that I had used. I used the same masthead as on my magazine because this was a convention I had seen during my website analysis, it helps the consumer recognise their print product website and shows continuity. I decided to do this because Bentley said in 1997, “ Successful media products come from rearranging the old to create the new.”

The first thing that I did was to add my banner image. I inserted the image and then resized it so that it would fit across the whole of the top of the page. Above this was the header for website. This included the subheadings that were also links to my feature stories. I made it so that when you hovered over each heading they would highlight orange so that you know they are links. Beneath the masthead and banner are links to the stories that are featured on my website. I put in the title of the stories and then a small teaser beneath the title. I did this using the text tool.  I also included an image with each story to break up the text. This is something that my target audience will feel will represent them because they stereotypically don’t want loads of text. The links to the pages are in orange boxes. I used orange because it is bright and eye catching and if I want my readers to click on the links I will need to catch their attention.

The body of my homepage consists of an introduction into one of my stories. I put in the text using the text tool. I then added a link button that would take you to the page that the story is on. On the right hand side is a latest news column. These were of more local football events. The next column included useful links from around the world of Cornish football. Underneath this I have more links to other stories. I included white boxes and then added text using the text tool and orange, eye catching, boxes that read “more…” these are links to other stories. I added these so that other stories could be accessed from anywhere because as I learnt from my audience research, ease of use was most important to the users of my website.

In the footer of my website Included a comment box where previous user of the websites could comment on the site and what they thought about it. This gave the users the chance to get involved with the site and have their say on their local football website. I also included more story teasers, a link to the image gallery and some teaser images and a final story and a link to that.

This is the first linked story on my website. This story has a subheading in the header of my homepage. It has the same banner and masthead as on my homepage to show continuity throughout my website.

The second story link was a football boot review. The story page follow the same style as the previous one to continue the theme of the website in order to make my product look professional.
